Long Service Leave Calculator TAS 🇦🇺
Calculate your long service leave entitlements in Tasmania. Enter your years of service and ordinary hours per week (default 38) to see your leave entitlement in both weeks and hours. Use the pro-rata option if you're leaving your job.
TAS Rules:
8.667 weeks at 10 years, then 4.333 weeks every 5 years (Pro-rata available after 7 years)
Introduction
Tasmania mirrors the NSW model on accrual but adds its own flavour: strict rules against early access and a retirement-age clause in pro-rata payouts. Below is the full rundown and calculator guidance.
Entitlement ladder
- 8.6667 weeks at 10 years.
- 4.333 weeks every five years after that.
- No leave before entitlement—taking it early is unlawful according to WorkSafe.
Pro-rata payouts
Between 7–10 years, a payout is available only if service ends due to illness, incapacity, death, retirement (60 women, 65 men), or pressing domestic necessity. Serious misconduct disqualifies the payment.
Taking leave
The Act expects a single continuous period unless the parties agree otherwise; most employers now allow smaller chunks to match modern rosters.
Calculator path
Enter service and hours, tick exit status if relevant. The calculator checks 10-year threshold first, then applies pro-rata logic if between 7–10 years and an approved reason is selected.
Example
Employee retires at 9 years 11 months, 38 hours:
- Weeks: 9.916 × 0.8667 = 8.590.
- Hours: 8.590 × 38 = 326.4.
Note: Public holidays do not extend LSL; factor this into rostering.
